Little Feet Childcare Centre strives to manage children’s behaviour using techniques to change or eliminate unwanted behaviour and encourage desirable behaviour. Our approach to guiding child’s behaviour is to be a good role model through frequent and appropriate encouragement which is genuine and specific.
- All staff and children will work together to establish a clear set of ground rules governing all behaviour at Little Feet Child Care Centre.
- Positive behaviour will be reinforced with praise and encouragement.
- Every child in the centre when receiving guidance and control will not be subjected to any form of physical ill treatment, solitary confinement (which includes time-out), immobilisation or deprivation of food, drink warmth, shelter, or protection.
- Challenging behaviour will be addressed in a calm and assertive manner.
- Children who behave inappropriately may be removed from the group until the child has calmed down (5-10mins).
- Any child displaying unacceptable behaviour will be spoken to and asked to think about what he/she has done.
- The child once ready will be asked to apologize to the child who has been hurt.
- The child who has been upset will be comforted. The staff will also acknowledge that the other child’s behaviour is not acceptable.
- Staff will try to re-direct children’s interest by offering them to alternative sand positive options. Staffs will be open in stating and explaining the consequences of the inappropriate behaviour that has been displayed.
- Parents/caregivers will be informed if the child’s behaviour is persistent, parents will be asked to meet with staff to discuss their child’s behaviour and to work together to ensure consistency in managing the child’s behaviour is maintained between the centre and home.
- In cases of extreme in-appropriate behaviour, and after parent/caregivers consultation, the supervisor may request an additional advice and support from other professionals’ such as educational psychologist or Moe.
