Emergency Procedure -Aggressive Threatening Behaviour

The following behaviour is unacceptable:

  • Unwelcome or offensive gestures
  • Verbal abuse
  • Racist or sexist comments
  • Intimidation
  • Sexual harassment
  • Being under the influence of drugs, alcohol or solvents
  • Physical violence
  • Defacing or destroying property.

Managing aggressive or threatening behaviour:

  • Warn the offender that their behaviour is unacceptable, if it is possible to do so without escalating the situation or putting children or staff at risk.
  • Advise you will stop the discussion and ask them to leave.
  • Keep calm.
  • Do not attempt to approach or restrain them.
  • Get help or phone the police.
  • If there is a risk to children, other staff or people on site they should be moved out of the danger area if possible.
  • Immediately report and document the incident. Use an incident report if appropriate.
